Advice for international relocations

International Moving Advice

Even if you're only moving just across the Channel, an international move is a very exciting and occasionally stressful time. You need to prepare well in advance to ensure your international move goes smoothly. Many of our staff at Britannia Bradshaw International Removals & Storage have personally made moves across continents and oceans, and - of course - we've helped countless customers make the big move, too. We are happy to share our experience with you.

Plan ahead and research

An international move takes a lot of coordination and planning and you should begin to plan your move as soon as you know you're moving. Research the country you're moving to, as well as the town you'll be settling in. The more you know about the locals, customs, traditions and the day-to-day life of your new home, the quicker you'll settle in.

Expect the unexpected

Every country has their own rules about who can enter, when they can enter, even about who and when you can move into your new home. For example, don't expect to move into your new apartment on a Sunday, public holiday or evening in Switzerland as it is forbidden then; in Dubai, you must be married to your partner in order to live together. We can help you schedule your move so that you're in compliance with local laws and rules, reducing your stress.

Make sure your visas are in order

Every country has different rules and regulations about who can enter, who needs a visa, etc. If you require a visa for the country you're moving to, ensure this is arranged before you book your tickets and will be in place before your removal. Don't forget, even though European Union citizens have free movement throughout the EU, Norway and Switzerland, you may still need to register with the authorities and obtain a permit before your goods can be delivered to you at your new home.

Don't forget about your pets

You may need to begin making arrangements to move your pets with you long before you are ready to move. Be sure that you have everything ready for moving day for your pet, including their passport if you're moving within the EU or EEA.
