Tips to plan your move to a new home
Wed 25th November 2020When you're moving home, it goes without saying that you'll want things to run as smoothly as possible. Moving can often require a lot of planning and organisation - particularly if you're tight on time or if your move is a long distance one. It always pays to be prepared, and there's a lot you can do before moving day to make the process easier.
Here are some preparatory tips you might want to consider:
Get yourself some storage
It's a good idea to have as much packed away in boxes and containers as possible - the less you have to carry loose on moving day, the better! So beforehand, make sure you have enough packing supplies. A range of boxes, packing paper and other packing accessories can be obtained from us here at Britannia Bradshaw International Removals & Storage. Simply call our office to find out more.
Lists, lists, lists
Even the best of us can forget things when we've got a lot to remember - don't leave anything to chance, and draw up a checklist of things you need to get done before moving day. Make a note of all the utility suppliers you need to contact, and check how much notice you need to give them before closing or switching your account to your new address. Also, be sure to go through your standing orders and cancel those which are no longer applicable.
Clean as much as you can
In the days and weeks leading up to your move, try to keep on top of your laundry and cleaning as much as possible - it'll mean less hassle when it comes to packing, and save time when you're settling into your new home. If the property you're leaving is rented, you'll want to ensure that you leave it as spotless as possible - again, cleaning whenever possible during the weeks before will leave you more time to organise as moving day gets closer.
Remember to time everything right
Make a timetable of your moving dates, particularly if there's a gap between your leaving one property and moving into another. If you're using removal or storage services, you'll want to ensure that you book things at the right time, and on the right day. Remember, Britannia Bradshaw International Removals & Storage offers both short- and long-term storage services. And, where possible, make arrangements with your place of work to ensure that you have enough time to get everything done.
Finally…
Many hands make light work - the promise of a couple of drinks will probably go a long way to persuading your friends and family give you a hand on moving day!
