Moving to the USA with Britannia Bradshaw
Packing & Delivery – Our trained packers can pack and wrap all your items to ensure that they are transported safely. If you choose a full door to door service, we will deliver the goods to your new home. Our agents can then unwrap your furniture and unpack your moving boxes onto a flat surface, and all used packing materials will be removed from the site.
Additional removal services – Britannia Bradshaw can provide a variety of additional services when moving to the USA. We can provide comprehensive insurance, can arrange international storage prior to delivery, and can also take care of your pet transport.
Importing Personal Effects to the USA
Household goods and personal effects can usually be imported duty free, provided they have been owned for at least a year before arriving in the USA. Most containers arriving in the United States of America will be subject to examination by US customs. You must ensure you have the appropriate visa for entry into the USA. To import your household goods, we will provide you with the correct customs form, that must be completed prior to the goods leaving the UK.
Prohibitions and Restrictions
In general it is in your interest not to import the following items to the United States of America:
- Firearms & ammunition
- Inflammable goods & substances
- Plants & plant material
- Foodstuffs, perishables or otherwise
- Narcotics and dangerous goods
- Offensive materials
- Alcohol & Tobacco
Transit times
Transit of groupage or shared load consignments usually takes 8 to 11 weeks via the East Coast and 11 to 14 weeks if going via the West Coast. Sole use containers will normally take 2 weeks to the East Coast and 4 weeks to the West Coast. However, transit times will also vary depending on the size of your consignment, customs or immigration delays and weather conditions.

How are our appointments carried out
In the current times you might prefer that we don't visit your house in person to carry out a survey. This is fully understandable and we can just as easily undertake the survey by video call, using whatever method you're comfortable with, usually FaceTime or WhatsApp.

It was not straight forward, it cost more than it could and should due to circumstances outside of everyone's control but we got there in the end and the physical move of items was the easiest part in fairness.
